Case Study: Real Voices Educational Drama Film

This one we are very proud of! Real Voices is a play created by Essential Safeguarding and Safe Productions. It explores the lives of young people who have been groomed and coerced into criminal exploitation. Following the pandemic, the play could not be performed live. So with the help of Oldham Council, Isaac Who created a short film version of Real Voices. This allowed safeguarding education to continue safely within schools and educational settings. The play deals with exploitative relationships which lead to child sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation/county lines and teenage domestic abuse. We are immensely proud of the work we've done on this and hope it makes a difference for at-risk teens.

Educational Drama Film

Problem

Oldham Council were looking to create a digital educational resource to help continue delivering their Theatre In Education (T.I.E) Play during the pandemic. Real Voices had to cancel a number of performances across the U.K during 2020. Consequently, they needed help to adapt the play into something for a much bigger audience. Plus, a format that could be shared safely in all settings.

Solution

Isaac worked alongside Oldham Council to develop and adapt Real Voices for the screen. Firstly this involved story rewrites as well as creating digital lesson plans and resource packs. In this case, the medium of film was used to help strengthen the overall campaign. We worked with the original team for Real Voices to ensure the messaging and themes were strongly maintained.

Outcome

A broadcast-quality 25-minute drama and educational resource pack was delivered to schools and educational centres in the North East. The feedback from schools, educational bodies and governors has been outstanding. As a result, Oldham Council is already working towards their next project with Isaac Who. George Bukhari, one of the producers, said;

I can only describe Isaac as creative, brave, dynamic and hardworking. This lot strive to get the best possible results while keeping all parties happy. I’ve enjoyed working with them recently on some shorts and watching their end results is most effective and satisfying. Look forward to working with you lot again on future projects.
