From Doctor Who To Isaac Who
If you’re familiar with Isaac Who, you’ll know that our Head of Creative is Jonny Dixon. If you are not as familiar, then you may know Jonny from one of his many roles in Britain’s most loved shows; Grange Hill, Coronation Street, Boy Meets Girl, to name but a few. But, If you’re a fan of Doctor Who, you’ll no doubt recognise him as Karl the crane operator in Jodie Whitaker’s first appearance as the thirteenth doctor. A fan favourite, Jonny reappeared as Karl once more in the Doctor Who Christmas Special that aired on New Year’s Day 2022. We wanted to show a little love for our favourite cheeky chappy with some of the wonderful things people have been saying about our Jonny after the show aired.
The Woman Who Fell To Earth Appearance
The Woman Who Fell to Earth was Jodie Whitaker’s first appearance as the thirteenth doctor and became an instant hit for new and old fans alike. The episode aired Oct 7, 2018 and Karl, played by Jonny, got a great response from the public and critics alike.
Of the original episode, Dan Martin of the Guardian wrote, "Jonny Dixon, portraying the dithering Karl, remains one of this country's unrecognised comic talents…Somebody should surely give him a vehicle of his own." We couldn’t agree more. And if you know Isaac Who, you’ll know we’ve been working on many of our own original projects including the launch of the Treehouse.
Eve of the Daleks
Jodie Whittaker has continued to appear as the Doctor Who for the past three series, to great acclaim. Once more she reprised her role for several Christmas specials for 2021. With Jonny guest-starring alongside an impressive lineup of special guest stars for the New Year's Day episode. Actors included Aisling Bea (This Way Up, Living With Yourself, Quiz), Adjani Salmon (Dreaming Whilst Black, Enterprice), and Pauline McLynn (Father Ted, Shameless).
The episode, titled "Eve of the Daleks" aired on New Year's Day, 1st January 2022, and as always was loved by fans old and new. Plus, the reappearance of Karl certainly got a lot of attention on Twitter. Here are some of our favs!
We are incredibly proud of Jonny, as we are the rest of our team who work on amazing projects and personal development outside of Isaac Who, which we always support.
