What is a corporate video?

A corporate video is a production of a video by or for a company, corporation or organisation. There are lots of different types of corporate videos and any organisation could utilise them.

Frequently used as straight advertisements, they can also be used as training as well as for wider thought campaigns. In this article, we explain the different types of corporate video and their uses in business.

Types of corporate video

Brand Awareness

One of the most popular uses of corporate videos is for brand awareness. These videos can be in any style but they always use emotions as a way of connecting with the audience. The brand awareness video is there to leave a positive impression of an organisation. It can be short and sweet, or a longer brand film. But either way, it must be entertaining. We love this video about the company Risual. Although this is longer than your typical advert, it keeps viewers engaged for the full amount of time. It’s light-hearted, but it gets viewers intrigued about the company.

Product &  Service marketing

You can use corporate videos to promote a particular product or service. Creating a video or collection of videos can provide your customers with a more in-depth understanding of your offering. Some people prefer to watch and hear information over reading it, so why not capture this audience with a video. We produced a series of videos for the company The Hair Alchemist. They wanted to promote their business by focusing on their main product, hair extensions. We produced three videos; firstly, a general introduction about their business and the service their customers could expect. Part two is a video on their main product ‘Russian Virgin Hair’ extensions, which explains what they are in detail. Thirdly, we produced a film about the aftercare of the extensions. These three videos work great together. They showcase their company’s ethos and provide detailed information for customers looking to buy.

Event Marketing

It can be difficult to put into words what a customer will get for their money when attending an event. Using a corporate video to promote your event will allow you to create an emotional feeling around the event. Music and visuals can be very powerful in displaying the vibe of your event to your audience. A great example is the Fyre Festival marketing which used amazing videos to create this feeling of exclusivity and luxury. We all now know it was a scam which ran into a disaster once its paying patrons arrived. However, we cannot deny the quality and feel of the videos they produced. It was for this reason the event sold out.

Training in house

A corporate video doesn’t have to be for presenting to the outside world. It can also be used for essential day to day activities such as internal training. Videos can cover legal topics,  activity training or new product information. Furthermore, a corporate video can help your employees perform their job better. Learning visually is more effective, improving retention of information and increasing knowledge.

End-User Training

Sometimes the goal of a corporate video is to train your end user. Whether that’s to build trust prior to purchasing or to support aftercare services. Training videos also don’t have to be dull; British Airways ‘Director’s Cut’ safety video is a great example of this done well. It’s providing genuine information for their passengers while the all-star cast keeps them entertained. This type of video also works as a brand awareness corporate video too.

Wider issues

You can also use your corporate video to tackle more serious issues while boosting your brand. A corporate video like this should be central to a digital and offline campaign to make an impact. One of the most successful videos promoting corporate responsibilities was the banned Iceland video. This featured the sad tale of an orangutan who had lost its home to loggers and palm oil plantations. This highlighted the problems around palm oil for the first time to many in the British public. Iceland was making a commitment to this cause.  This video and its subsequent ban put their brand front and centre in the nation’s news.
